Tennessee River waterfront cabin vacations are a great way to spend some time out in nature and get away from civilization for a while. There's no shortage of things to do, from rafting on the river to hiking in the woods. This can be a great vacation for couples and for groups of friends, but it can also be a great option for families, particularly if you follow a few tips to make the experience more family-friendly.

1. Choose a cabin a ways from the river.

You can find some cabins that are positioned right up against the river bank. These can offer a nice ambiance if you are camping with a few adult friends, but they can be dangerous when camping with children. When you're staying that close to the river, you have to keep a constant eye on the kids to ensure nobody falls or jumps into the water without supervision. You might want to rent a cabin that's a 10-minute walk or so from the river's edge. You'll still be able to hear the river faintly in the background, and you can reach it easily — but if you take your eyes off the kids for 1 minute, you won't have to worry as much.

2. Plan some activities for inside the cabin.

Try as you might to visit when the weather is nice, there is a chance you'll experience some rain during your vacation. The woods and river banks can get a bit rough during bad weather, so you probably won't want to risk hiking or kayaking with the kids when the wind is howling. Bring some card games or board games to keep everyone entertained when you're stuck indoors.

3. Research plant and animal life beforehand.

This is the perfect opportunity to teach your kids more about nature. There are so many different plants and animals along the Tennessee River! Buy some nature books on the region, or lease them from the library, and read them before you embark on your trip. You could do this on the plane or during the car ride to your cabin. Knowing the names of the trees, flowers, birds, and other animals you see will allow you to educate and entertain your kids with this knowledge as they hike and explore around the cabin.

Vacationing on the Tennessee River is an experience your family will not soon forget. With the tips above, it can be a safe and enjoyable one.
