Just about everyone loves the idea of a beach vacation. Many people probably just envision themselves kicking back and relaxing on the sand for the entirety of the trip, and there's nothing wrong with that. But many beachfront vacation spots offer a lot more options for fun in the sun besides just being lazy on the beach. Here are some ideas for how you can take your next beach vacation to another level.

Use the Water to Get Active

Whether you are posted up by the ocean, a gulf or a bay, any beachfront location likely has a variety of ways to get active in the nearby water. This could be the perfect opportunity for you and the family to learn a new water-based sport or activity. Sign up for jet skiing or see if you can go scuba diving. Go paragliding and see the entire beach from a different angle. No matter what your water sport of choice is, you are likely going to find one or more companies in the area who can let you rent the equipment you will need or even escort you out to the water on your very own rented charter.

Explore the Beach for Hidden Treasure

If getting active in the water isn't your style, that's OK. But you can still create your own fun right on the beach without having to walk too far away from your hammock. Find a beach that isn't overrun with tourists and you'll have a good stretch of sand to explore. The kids can walk along the beach and see how many different colors or sizes of seashells they can find. If you want to take your exploration to another level, get yourself or the kids a metal detector and start walking up and down the beach. You may just find some old coins or other hidden treasure beneath the sand.

Enjoy a Beachfront Vacation Rental

If you want to really elevate your vacation to another level, one of the best options to consider would be to book a vacation rental for the length of your stay. This will allow you to set up shop as close to the beach as possible without having to go back and forth to a hotel every day. Having your own spot right by the beach will also allow an easy escape if the weather turns cold or the wind picks up. Many vacation rentals often come with an option for equipment for surfing or some of those other water activities we mentioned earlier.
